The shortlist for ReelOzInd! 2025 features 24 short films by filmmakers from across Australia and Indonesia. Winners will be announced at festival premieres in Melbourne and Yogyakarta on 23 October.
The shortlisted films include finalists representing the genres of fiction, documentary, animation and for young filmmakers aged 13-18 years.
Festival director Jemma Purdey praised the quality and range of talent on display, “This year marks the 10th ReelOzInd! Festival, and yet again we were blown away by the films. We received a near record number of submissions, which made the jury’s job as hard as ever. The theme ‘imajinasi’ has seen filmmakers go to the next level in terms of innovative and exciting storytelling”.
The pop-up festival will premiere on 23 October in Melbourne at ACMI and in Yogyakarta hosted by UII Yogyakarta, in collaboration with the Kaliurang Festival Hub. Purdey remarked that it was a fitting way to kick off this milestone year, “The second ReelOzInd! Festival premiere was held in Yogyakarta in 2017, and we have returned several times since to this amazing cultural city, so it feels like coming home.”
The Australian leg of the festival will once again launch at the premiere centre for film, ACMI. Both premieres will be held on 23 October and are free events. The pop-up festival of screenings will then roll out across the two countries in collaboration with our festival screening partners and online.
